Support for Professional & Skills-Based Education

We recognize that, in Taiwan and many neighboring countries, professional qualifications are not yet widely appreciated. Globally—including in OECD nations—academic degrees have historically been prioritized over technical or professional pathways.

However, emerging technologies and market realities are shifting this perspective, as employers increasingly encounter:

  • Graduates with academic qualifications but limited work experience
  • Skills shortages in technical and vocational fields

We help institutions respond to this skills gap.

Alignment with Global Employment Trends

Today’s job market increasingly favors candidates with:

  • Professional qualifications, and
  • Job-ready technical skills

This is especially evident in fields such as:

  • Accounting & Finance
  • Computing (software & hardware)
  • Business Analytics
  • Cybersecurity
  • Information Science
  • Engineering
  • Medicine

This global trend is particularly meaningful for Taiwan, given its:

  • Declining population
  • Lower labor participation rate
  • Strong demand for technically skilled graduates

Insights from International Models

Data from the US and UK show that graduates with professional degrees experience lower unemployment rates.
A similar pattern has long existed in Germany and Austria, where robust technical training and apprenticeships support successful industries—especially advanced manufacturing and engineering.

Germany’s strong record is supported by:

  • Extensive technical education
  • Comprehensive apprenticeship systems
  • A large number of technical universities and institutions

Preparing Students for the Future

We must equip learners not only for current market demand, but for the evolving landscape—future-proofing skills.

Key realities include:

  • Markets are fluid; labor demand is shifting
  • Students increasingly need both academic and technical capabilities
  • Taiwan’s industrial landscape is transitioning toward innovation and technology

Government initiatives are reinforcing this shift by:

  • Promoting job-ready skills
  • Supporting career development programs
  • Investing in training for a more technically skilled workforce

Responding to Rising Asian Market Needs

Across Asia, cities such as Shanghai, Taipei, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Manila, and Jakarta are moving up the value chain with growing emphasis on:

  • Financial markets
  • Corporate finance

This drives rising demand for professionally trained graduates in Accounting and Finance.

Meanwhile:

  • Shenzhen leads in AI, computing, and electronics
  • Taiwan continues to dominate advanced microprocessor and semiconductor production

Major companies—including TSMC (Taiwan), Tencent and Alibaba (China), and global smartphone manufacturers—are creating strong demand for technically skilled graduates.

Growing Interest in Technical Pathways

Chinese students already gravitate toward technical disciplines such as:

  • Engineering
  • Finance
  • Management

High graduate unemployment further highlights the need for:

  • High-quality vocational pathways
  • Professional qualifications

While elite academic institutions remain important, the future will likely involve greater emphasis on practical, vocational, and professional education models.
